Scarification

Scarification is offered as part of the Lawncraft Grass & Lawn Cutting Service with Garden Maintenance.

It is a mechanical treatment to remove a layer of thatch that forms on the surface of many lawns. When it becomes matted, the thatch prevents aeration and nutrients getting to the roots of the grass and impedes thickening of the turf.

Lawncraft use professional scarifying machines to remove the thatch and allow the turf to breathe and grow normally.

Aeration

Aeration is also offered by the Lawncraft Grass & Lawn Cutting Service with Garden Maintenance.

The main purpose of aeration is to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate beneath the surface of the lawn so that the roots can breathe. It also enables nutrients to feed the turf. Compaction of the surface of the lawn is eased and the turf is strengthened.

Compaction affects the layer of soil reaching to a depth of approximately two inches beneath the turf. It is due to people walking or playing on the grass over a period of time.

Aeration is considered to be one of the most important treatments for a lawn but without the right equipment it is a difficult task.

Lawncraft use professional hollow tine aerators that break approximately two or three inches through the surface crust to and remove the core. The treatment is carried out over the whole lawn.
